What is the Delaware River Wrestling League about ?
This league is all about the individual wrestler. The wrestlers are enetred into a matchman program where your child is macthed up by their age, weight and ability. They are given a rating system of 1 through 6, done specifically by the coaches only, 1 being a beginner and 6 being older and advanced. Please click on the link Ratings Guide for futher information.

Matches are either on Saturday or Sunday which run about 2 to 3 hours. Your child will wrestle about 2 or 3 matches in this time span. Your child could also wrestle 4 or more depending on his weight class.

In this league your child does not have to worry about their weight because there are no weighins for these matches. Your child will be weighed three times during the course of the league season.  In the beginning, the middle and at the end for the League Torunament. We can not stress enough that a child needs to eat healthy in order to grow and develop properly.

About the Wildcat Club
The coaches and board members number one priority is the wrestler. Our goal is to teach and prepare your child to compete on the mat. Second is the parents. Our Parent Booster Club will hold mandatory meetings once a month to answer any questions and to communicate to you of how and what the club is doing. We feel communication is key in order for your child to succeed. A board member will always be present at practices to answer any of your questions.

Practices this year are mandatory. We have changed this becuase it is not fair to the other wrestlers who show up for practice and have 1 or no partner to workout with in their weight class. It makes it harder on the coaches to match  the wrestler up as close as possible.
Practices will start in the fist week of November. During this time we will be doing tournaments to get mat time in, experience. All practices will be at the Del Val High School wrestling room 2 nights a week starting at 6pm and finishing by 7:30 or 7:45 pm. The coaches will run, stretch and drill your child for the first 30 minutes followed by live wrestling the last hour of practice. Your child will learn hands on by being put into situations with their partner to gain the experience needed for their upcoming matches.

Tournaments are done throughout the year and they are not mandatory. It is up to the parent and the wrestler if they want to come. We try to get as much mat time for your child as possible to give them the experience and confidence that they need. We had a core of 10 wrestlers who wrestled over 300 matches in 12 different tournaments this past season resulting in 17 1st place, 30 2nd place and 13 3rd place wins.
The Wildcat Club sponsors 2 tournaments each season where we pay for the registration fee. One for the Novice (1st and second year wrestlers) and 1 for the experienced (3 or more years). We also do overnight trips with some of the tournaments where you and your child can have a great time and unwind at the pool.

The Wildcat Club has only one mandatory fund raiser for the year where we will need every parent to be hands on. This is our own club run torunament which raises funds for us to opreate  throughout the season. The 3rd Annual Del Val Wildcat Round Robin. All our wrestlers are entered into this tournament and no fee is required. Please mark your calendars now for Sunday December 12th ,2010.
We also need help during our 2 home league matches for the year with set up of the gym, running tables and a very limited concession stand. Without your help the coaches and board members can not do it alone.

Thank you for considering the Del Val Wildcat Wrestling Club for your child. If you have any further questions, please email Sharon Lightner President of the Wildcats at slightner100@yahoo.com
